Doodles Dooplicator launches on OpenSea to rake in $20M



The Duplicator collection of Doodles reached almost $20 million in trading volume on OpenSea less than 24 hours after launch, indicating a healthy appetite for the upcoming Doodles 2 collection.

The minimum price for the Dooplicator collection is around $1,000, with volume touching 12,900 ETH on OpenSea at press time.

Community response around the Duplicator collection was mostly positive. Doodles #8221 The owner of Qponde.eth appreciated the simplicity of making wearables.

Twitter user archie9lives, who owns MAYC #12614 from the Mutant Ape Yacht Club collection and is followed by Doodle, said that the successful Duplicator launch means Doodle 2 will be successful.

Owners of the original Doodle use the Duplicator to generate wearables for the upcoming Doodle 2 Avatar Collection. The wearables will be generated from the features of one of the 10,000 existing Doodles on Ethereum. Existing Doodle holders can sell the rights to their characters’ features on the Duplicator Marketplace.

Duplicators produce different amounts of wearable items at different rarity levels. To use the Duplicator, the user will receive a beta pass, giving them early access to Doodle 2, where they can use their new wearables. The firmware update will unlock further benefits for Duplicator holders. The newly created wearables can be traded on Flow’s NFT marketplace Gaia.

Digital artists Bernd Tost, Jordan Castro and Ivan Keast created the original Doodle Profile Picture non-fungible token collection on Ethereum.

Despite the positive community response, Doodles CEO Julien Holguin acknowledged that the original Doodles rights business could be improved.

Houlgin joined the Doodle from Billboard in May 2022.

Yug Labs Success Suggests Doodles Heading in the Right Direction

Doodles recently raised $54 million in a funding round led by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six venture firm for proprietary technology and made several key hires across engineering, marketing, creative and C-suite teams.

In June 2022, Doodles hired musician and producer Pharrell Williams to executive produce an upcoming Doodles album, Doodles Records: Volume 1. Doodles will layer music from the album on top of the upcoming Doodles 2 collection. The “Happy” singer serves as the main brand ambassador for Doodles.

Doodles recently agreed to buy Golden Wolf, a Disney-affiliated animation studio, in order to produce long-form content. Its CEO Julian Holguin, formerly of Billboard, is reportedly in talks with Hollywood creatives and producers to create a Doodle TV show.

While it’s not known whether these partnerships will contribute to Doodle’s longevity, another successful NFT project offers clues.

Yug Labs, makers of Bored App Yacht Club, raised $450 million in a March 2022 funding round led by a16z. Subsequent efforts to expand the brand’s appeal through its OtherDeads virtual land project resulted in $600 million in revenue. Its Sewer Pass gives NFT holders access to a new play-to-earn game called Dookie Dash. Era Labs announced Dookie Dash in mid-January. 2023, Bor Ape Yacht Club’s sales increased by 171%.
